Following Your Procedure

Recovery time is anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 hours after surgery depending on the type of surgery and/or anesthesia. Once the procedure is complete, patients go to the Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) where monitoring is conducted by skilled Registered Nurses. When ready (usually after 30 minutes), patients are then taken to the Step-down Recovery Area where they are offered light liquids and receive discharge instructions.

For pediatric patients recovery can range from 30 minutes to 2 hours after surgery depending on the type of surgery and/or anesthesia. Once the procedure is complete, patients will go to the Pediatric Recovery Unit where monitoring is conducted. Due to limited space only one parent will be allowed in the recovery area at a time. Pediatric patients will be provided with light liquids as tolerated and cartoons.

Discharge

Prior to being discharged, each patient and accompanying adult is given instructions on proper follow-up care. A Registered Nurse from Surgery Center of the Lakelands will call you on the next business day after your surgery to check on your progress.
